Weird, white blobs on head of western conifer seed bug

Weird, white blobs on head of western conifer seed bug
Westerville, Delaware County, Ohio, USA
August 2, 2011
Size: 0.75 inch
I'm pretty sure that I have identified the insect correctly, but I was curious as to what the white, circular blobs were on its head.

Moved
Moved from immature stages · parasitized hosts · metamorphosis.
Phasiinae parasitizes these bugs.

Moved
Moved from Frass.
I keep other tachinid eggs on this page, but it is nice to have some here under "immature stages, parasitized hosts, & metamorphosis".

This image isn't needed for the Guide, but it will be visible here for 30 days until removed by the system.

Tachinid eggs
We don't have many images of tachinid eggs in the guide. It may be a good idea to keep this one, despite its being a little blurry. The placement is interesting and these two images seem to represent the same host. Maybe some day we'll know for sure that these are Trichopoda eggs.

Another shot of the same insect
I have a somewhat less blurry image of this insect's head uploaded elsewhere.

It almost looks like there is a hole in the insect's head between the two eggs a bit to the left.

It's entirely up to you...
I think we actually have a fair number of images--but they're in Coreidae instead of Tachinidae. :)

Tachinid fly eggs
Probably Trichopoda.

Ewww...
I was just reading here what is going to happen to the western conifer seed bug.
