Robber Fly - Efferia benedicti - male

Robber Fly - Efferia benedicti - Male
Selah, Yakima County, Washington, USA
August 5, 2011
My first robber fly!! I had never seen one until now. This robber fly had been in a bad fight and lost, both wings were badly damaged and it was missing most of a leg.

Efferia benedicti
Herschel is right -- Efferia benedicti male. Ranges from southern BC grasslands to California and Arizona. A rather common species, at least in the northern part of its distribution.

Sounds like
Efferia roughhouseii. But only six species in WA state in this big western group. Most likely E benedicti male.

Moved from ID Request.

Looks like
a male Efferia.
