This is not occidentalis. It
This is not occidentalis. It could be several things, but range rules this species out completely. O. canescens would be a possibility, but without a male I'm not comfortable labeling it as such.

I'm not as familiar with the western fauna, so I'm not comfortable placing it to species level.

Thank you, that narrows it down a lot. I browsed the Okanagana guide a bit and listened to some of their calls on a different site. I thought this one was similar to canadensis and rimosa, but according to the guide they don't even occur in CA.
The cicada stayed with me overnight and I would like to release it back into its natural habitat as soon as possible today. Are there any traits I should look out for that would help identify the species? I'll hold onto to it for just a little bit longer in case any additional images could help.
