It looks like you got the right identity on this one. The host plant was right, it was in a leaf roll and it matches up well with the larval picture on
MPG
also.

There is a decent image on MPG, or if you can get your hands on "Insects of Eastern Hardwood Trees" by Rose and Lindquist you'll find it there.

Southwestern Corn Borer??
I think thats a Southwester Corn Borer...My wife found one today in our yard, and although we dont have corn, thats the closest thing I can find :)) Hope that helps folks!

We just saw some yesterday in Chicago
all rolled up in leaves of Aspen. Maybe there's something called the Aspen/Poplar Leaf Roller??
