Guatemalan Cracker #1 - Hamadryas guatemalena

Guatemalan Cracker #1 - Hamadryas guatemalena
Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA

When I heard second-hand that someone had spotted TWO of them, I thought that surely the person was mistaken. Well, don't call him Shirley, because after we found and photographed "the" Guatemalan Cracker a few times, we realized that there were two different individuals! Each one had a patch missing from its wings, but each cracker was missing a chunk in a different place: this one from the right forewing, the other from the left hindwing. One day I managed to spot both individuals simultaneously; one, the other, or both of them were present for most of the month of January 2006. Really got the year off to a good start...
