HUGE black fly--any idea of specifics on this guy? I have never seen a fly this size!

Horse fly
Looks like a male of the black horse fly Tabanus atratus. Males don't bite.

Thanks so much...didn't think Tabanus grew over 1.5 inches--this guy was at LEAST 2, perhaps 3 inches. Glad to know he won't bite!!!
