Black Swallowtail - Papilio polyxenes

Black Swallowtail - Papilio polyxenes
Gainesville, Florida, USA
August 2, 2004
I've been finding loads of black swallowtail larvae in my herb garden on fennel, parsley and dill, so I brought a couple inside to pupate. On a green stem it makes a green pupa like this (pupated on Salvia). On a brown twig the pupa will be brown.
