Ant.
First, I agree that these images are just spectacular. Ant identification really benefits from at least one lateral view, though. Dolichoderus has a distinctive 'hump' on the back of the thorax that is very obvious in a profile view, but totally obscured in a dorsal view. I'm impressed Richard made an ID from these shots.

Lateral profiles
I know side views are important, but when they're walking around on a leaf outside in the wind, I worked to get dorsal shots. If I see them again, I'll concentrate on a better angle.
Go figure, I get a shot of a queen a couple weeks before I get a worker.
Thanks both Richard and Eric for your comments and identifications.

The worker is there! - Dolichoderus plagiatus
Nothing equals photographs of live specimens on a natural substrate, even for ants. These two pictures are simply beautiful. I was watching a small colony of our own species D. quadripunctatus yesterday, as they were moving to a new nesting place, carrying larvae and pupae.
