Tussock Moth (Orgyia sp.)
Looks like Douglas Fir Tussock (Orgyia pseudotsugata) to me, from flipping from the guide. But I'm no expert so don't count on my word for sure!

Thanks for your help ... the pictures do look similar. And that would explain some of our defoliation on our firs.
