Size: Length ~ 7-8 mm
I'm hoping to learn whether or not this specimen belongs in the genus Syrphus. Thanks for looking! ;-)

Eupeodes americanus/pomus group.
Note the facial stripe which doesn`t reach anywhere near the base of antennae. This rules our Syrphus. Epistrophe have the hind leg orange/yellow.

I'd say Syrphus, too, but would be more certain if you have a shot showing whether the light strips run onto the lower part of the body. (If, instead, there's a thin black band separating top/bottom, it's Eupeodes.)
