Unlike nominate T. davisi, these cicadas are characterized by more rounded wings with the first 6 or 7 marginal cells being clouded (and not just along the veins as seen in nominate daivisi).

NOTE: The contrast in this image has be adjusted and the wings appear washed out
(esp. the "smoky infuscations" in the apical cells)

They seem to replace typical T. davisi in e. Arkansas, wc. Miss, nw. Mississippi, sw. Tennessee possibly extending east into nw. Alabama (where cicadas with very similar features to those described as harnedi also occur).

T. davisi harnedi is also similar to T. auriferus and easily confused with that species. Since the calls of both T. auriferus and T. davisi are similar, there is still some thought as to the proper placement of ssp. harnedi in relationship to the aforementioned.

Cicadas more typical of nominate Tibicen davisi can be found further east and southeast of this region.
