Beetle, Soldier? - Tetralimonius ornatulus

Beetle, Soldier? - Tetralimonius ornatulus
Big Basin Redwoods SP, Headquarters area, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
June 26, 2011
Size: sm
On an old redwood post near a 'meadow' of grass and sedges, with Redwood trees and Mountain Live Oaks all around.

Male? It spent the whole time I had to shoot it, trying to get it's wings to fold back in.

I've received specimens just like this from San Bernardino Co, CA. It appears to be a color variant of C. ornatulus. The genitalia match well with the figure in Dhafer's 2009 revision.

Very interesting...will investigate further...in Prosterninae, maybe a Limonius.

Click Beetle perhaps from the genus Ampedus
