Belostoma in salt water - Belostoma lutarium

Belostoma in salt water - Belostoma lutarium
Virginia Key, at Biscayne Bay Beach located between Miami Seaquarium and the Rickenbacker Causeway., Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA
August 13, 2011
Size: about 1 in.
I believe this is Belostoma flumineum; is it? Found on the beach right at the shore water line. My niece, nephew, and I went snorkeling yesterday. As we walked along the shore we noticed about 12 of these bugs (1 every 3 to 4 steps) among the seaweed that washed up to shore. They were all alive and slowly crawling in the wet sand. We also saw some swimming as the wave action pulled them into the water. I don't think this bugs live in salt water, do they? There have been very stormy days, I wonder if a group of them was blown here or somehow washed out to sea and ended up here? I did a search for "Belostoma in salt water" and the only hit back I got was this other post here on Bugguide:
these were also found swimming in the surf.
