Size: 2-3mm
I found several of these living in a tin can filled with soggy cigarette butts...they appeared to be feeding on the butts somehow...

Probably Fannia canicularis
These are probably Fannia canicularis. There are related species with undescribed larvae.

Fannia maggots
They look like those aliens that crawl into your ears in Star Trek: the Wrath of Khan. Geesh...

They are Fannia larvae, but i
They are Fannia larvae, but it is amazing that they can deal with the nicotine which was invented by plants as an insecticide.. Messes up the nervous system of the insect, but gives us a buzz (or diarrhea, or cancer)..
