Hyperaspis dobzhanskyi, female
A species limited to Arizona; the paratype was collected in Tucson, right around where you found this individual. It's a female, with a black head; in this species, both males and females have white anterolateral pronotal markings.

fairly similar to others ID'ed as H. connectens. e.g.
Ranging from s. CA to w. TX:
also, I don't see anywhere in Gordon (1985) where he states that
H. dobzhanskyi
have white lateral pronotal markings...
