Argus Tortoise Beetle -
Chelymorpha cassidea
Atchison, Atchison County, Kansas, USA
August 16, 2011
Size: 1/2 inch
At first glance had thought was a Mexican beetle...or maybe even a ladybird beetle...but? Not that I can figure? The top carapace(correct word?) looked almost see-thru.

Hmmm ...
I was going to welcome you to Bug Guide, but I see you've been posting for nearly 5 years. Still, a few newbie suggestions are in order. Add something brief about yourself on your account page. Also, no need to add an insect's taxon to the subject line. It is automatically added when placed on appropriate page.
BTW carapace is correct for a tortoise & arachnids, but it's
elytra
on a beetle
:)

lol...
Thanx so much. I wasn't sure about carapace or not? I've bug books but couldn't find the info I was looking for in that regaurd for some reason.
Wasn't sure if the name automatically fixed it'self. I've had times when I didn't get an ID (by comment) and it automatically moved my image out of ID to ID'd....with the name only in the overhead by-line.

I got a chuckle out of it ...
I think it might be called a tortoise beetle because the elytra looks like a carapace. Now, it's out of that black hole called ID Request, it should find a resting place before too long.

Argus Tortoise Beetle - Chelymorpha cassidea
Sure looks like it! Thanx so much...I tried catching images on here but my computer gave up after about 200 'orange beetle' thumbnails.
