Atypical Bombus nevadensis? - Bombus nevadensis

Atypical Bombus nevadensis? - Bombus nevadensis
Just north of Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado, USA
August 16, 2011
I'm thrown off by the brown (instead of black) on the abdomen here. In all other respects, it reminds me of a Bombus nevadensis. Is it just a color variant? It was very robust looking, and was larger than other B. nevadensis that I have seen, but I didn't have the equipment (and couldn't get close enough) to get a proper measurement.
I'm not sure if I can see pollen baskets, but it was so large that I don't think it could be a male, could it?
On Zinnia elegans in the CU horticulture farm, early afternoon.
