Eucanthus lazarus?
Identified by going through the collection at University of Maryland many years ago. Superficially it looks very similar Odonteus liebecki although this beetle has a very short broad horn that you cannot see in the photo as compared to the long, thin, needle-like horn of liebecki. I am not exactly sure why this is in it's own genus (if indeed it still is).

Great
Yes indeed. There are several subtle, but nonetheless important differences between Eucanthus and Odonteus. Eucanthus is very primitive.

The easiest way to differentiate the two (for our fauna anyway) is:
Eucanthus has the canthus NOT completely dividing the eye (dorsal and ventral portions of eye joined basally), whereas Odonteus has the canthus completely dividing the eye (dorsal and ventral portions of eye separate). Hard to see from photos.
