I belive this is a female. I have another dung beetle that looks just like this one but is 5 mm larger.

I was in Ocala National Fores
I was in Ocala National Forest on that same day! Too bad that I didn't find one of these, though. ;)

this is P. igneus
vindex has the elytra more coarsely sculptured - igneus is much more common in Florida.

This sp. is REAL variable in terms of color - from all black, all green to this, which does rather resemble vindex.

But you might want to get confirmation on this from someone more expert in beetles. Leps are more my area, and I even make mistakes on those sometimes. :)
