I belive this is a female. I have another dung beetle that looks just like this one but is 5 mm larger.

this is P. igneus
vindex has the elytra more coarsely sculptured - igneus is much more common in Florida.

But you might want to get confirmation on this from someone more expert in beetles. Leps are more my area, and I even make mistakes on those sometimes. :)
