# 2/3; 16-17mm fly, solitary, suggested a hoverfly, Eristalis, but it's not. Unusual face markings; ID by E Eaton...see comment

Flower fly
Nice lateral view of the flower fly, Spilomyia fusca. I heard from an expert on this group that they should "not" be called "hover flies" since so many flies from many families can hover. Ok, whatever you say:-)
