Leaf-footed bug - Leptoglossus zonatus

Leaf-footed bug - Leptoglossus zonatus
The Woodlands, Montgomery County, Texas, USA
June 8, 2006
The silhouette of this one is in the guide column at left, linking to "hoppers and kin." We are beginners, and have no idea what this is, and scrolling through the hoppers and their kin has not helped-- we haven't been able to find anything like it. Can someone point the way?

Leptoglossus?
I'm not an expert, but check out Leptoglossus or Acanthocephala.

I agree
I agree, a True Bug in the Leaf-footed Bug family, Coreidae. Tom's suggested the likely genera.

I hadn't notice till now, but our only link to the True Bugs using the "clickable guide" at left is a picture of an aquatic True Bug. That can be misleading!

Leptoglossus zonatus?
Machele White found this link to a description and photos of Leptoglossus zonatus. It looks good to me- what does everyone else say? If true, then I think we may have the first in the guide.

We're off to look for things in our backyard.
