Something Different? - Haplaxius pictifrons

Something Different? - Haplaxius pictifrons
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
June 8, 2006
I don't remember seeing one like this before, and my stroll through the umpteen Cicadellidae pages didn't help. Any ID help would be appreciated.

Myndus pictifrons
A Cixiid planthopper with a boldly patterned face - two black bands between the eyes, which are found in some other species - and the striped thorax and dark patch at the wing tips, which are distinctive of this species.

If I find him
If I find him again I will try to get a shot of his face. As it was I got two lateral shots and then he propeled himself off the leaf and out into space.

Thanks, Andy!

I am pretty sure this one is not a Cicadellid, as there is no row of spines on the tibiae. Perhaps a Cixiid. Check out this guy:

Good point
Good point about the tibial spines. Yes, maybe Cixiidae, or how about Delphacidae, something similar to this:

Could be. The way the eyes are placed reminds me more of Cixiidae. However, we should wait for Andy or someone to chime in.
