Adult and nymph treehoppers with ant attendants - Publilia concava
Liska-Stanek Prairie State Preserve, Fort Dodge, Webster County, Iowa, USA

Many treehoppers of various stages of development were well attended by busy ants on this prairie plant. Not sure which treehopper or ants they are?

With Formica montana in attendance, an abundant ant in mesic and wetter prairies of that area.

Publilia concava
We see lots of ants "tending" treehoppers, but there are no pictures of them actually feeding on the excreted honeydew. Or am I missing something important here?
