Scoliid Wasp - Scolia dubia - female

Scoliid Wasp - Scolia dubia - Female
Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
August 20, 2011
Size: 1"
Southern Montgomery county, during realitvely high heat and humidity, once sun started to really heat up the day around 11:00am...
Very calm temperment, browsing around herb garden, probably for 15 minutes at least. Flash of blue in the sun is what caught my eye.
Both pics are of the same wasp. Pics are both a little soft actually, but left pic shows good color and wing patern.
Thanks to those who helped identify this insect.
