Olympian Mayfly - Ameletus

Olympian Mayfly - Ameletus
N. Fork Quinault River @ Elip Creek, Jefferson County, Washington, USA

Ameletus rather than Siphlonurus
Arlo-

Lloyd Gonzales has succeeded in convincing me that, rather than being Siphlonurus, this mayfly is Ameletus, citing the MP vein of the hindwing being forked near hindwing base in Ameletus, as opposed to being forked around middle of hindwing in Siphlonurus.

Although there are no published records of Ameletus from Grays Harbor County, the N. Fork Quinault River is wholly in Jefferson County, which has published records of Ameletus pritchardi, A. sparsatus, and A. suffusus from the Quinault River, and Ameletus validus from the Hoh River. Please see WA Mayfly Distribution - By County.

Looks like I missed the sign
for "You are now leaving Grays Harbor County." This must be Jefferson County, given the location.

Siphlonurus
Hi Arlo-

I believe this to be a Siphlonurus female imago. Am a bit curious as to why you referred to it as an Olympian Mayfly.

I think
he found it in/near Olympic National Park. :)
