Band-winged?
It looks like a Band-winged Meadowhawk - Sympetrum semicinctum. The side markings on the thorax match this shot:

I think you are correct. Also looks like http://bugguide.net/node/view/552874. Just stumbled across it today when working on a more problematic Sympetrum sp.
