Gall on cherry leaf midrib

Gall on cherry leaf midrib
Dixville, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
August 23, 2011

Moved from Gall Midges.

Moved from Unidentified Galls.
Charley this was on a black cherry. Thanks for the info.

Upper side?
Just curious, was there a slot running along the length of the gall on the upper side of the leaf? This reminds me of some galls that have that feature on other host plants.

Upper side
I didn't photograph the upper side because there was virtually no sign of the gall there.

This may be an undescribed species--not a perfect match for either of the two known cherry leaf galls. Was this black cherry?
