This is a great shot, showing so clearly the five pairs of blue tubercles followed by six pairs of red tubercles, just as described.

Nice photo.
Gypsy moth caterpillars are again becoming a nuisance in the Northeast. In my state of RI, some areas of forest are already completely defoliated. It doesn't compare to the problem which existed in the early 80's, however. Then, spraying programs were being launched by helicopter and small planes all over the state. This species is again making the news but at this time is found more in concentrated pockets. Some areas are getting hit by this species now and then later in the summer by Mourning Cloak caterpillars.
