August 25, 2011
By morning, new wings & exoskeleton had hardened. After crawling up my arm, it flew off.

tibicens cicada
This is a wonderful series. There's a 7-year-old boy in my house and he never noticed cicadas, so I showed him a shell in our back yard. This one had picked a spring clothespin to change on. Must have been successful, because only the shell was left, still clinging to the clothespin.

I love your bugs.

Nice series!
I wanted to hear the call of this one but it's not in "The Somgs of Insects"; I'll have to check the Cornell site.

Little Known
Bill Reynolds says, "Tibicen similaris is a species that seems to exist with little available information. Perhaps, because these cicadas are very nervous and difficult to collect (most easily collected at lights or as nymphs), they are largely over looked and infrequently collected."
