hairy blue bumped caterpillar -
Tolype
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
June 10, 2006
Size: 16mm
I found this one on a large blade of grass. It might be an early/mid instar, and I couldn't find anything like it in Wagner.

Thanks John and Jane
It's a real good match for the Tolype picture you linked.

Wow! You are finding the wildest things!
Long soft hairs, like a Lappet, but just wild! Wonder what a young Lappet, page 228, does look like. We'll have to check that out. Meanwhile we'll await the answers you get on this beauty.

Lappet is a good possibility
It has the tapering hind quarters, and Wagner's picture shows a hint of the blue marks.

Moved
to the family page. I didn't have any luck rearing it, so I won't find out that way. Thanks for the help.
