Strange bee hive - Apis mellifera

Strange bee hive - Apis mellifera
Frisco, Collin County, Texas, USA
August 26, 2011
Size: about 12 inches diameter
This beehive was found in a restaurant parking lot. I have never seen this kind of structure with a beehive and was curious what kind of bees they were. The second image is a crop of the first for a closer view.

i'd
like to get my paws a chaunk of that honey comb, they can call a beekeeper and he will put the colony in a real hive

Honey bees (Apis mellifera)
This is what their hives look like when they can't find a cavity to nest in.
