Prionyx - female

Prionyx - Female
Biddeford, York County, Maine, USA
August 30, 2011
Size: about 2 cm
I observed this wasp paralyze the grasshopper (female Melanoplus bivittatus), and drag it to a tussock of grass. It then dug a burrow and kept returning to the hopper to apparently size it up for the hole. It eventually brought the grasshopper to the burrow and covered the hole with sand and pebbles.

Sweeeet!
That had to be fun to watch!
