Asilid - Scleropogon subulatus - female

Asilid - Scleropogon subulatus - Female
Lake Bee Rec Area, Chesterfield County, South Carolina, USA
August 27, 2011
Found in grassland near shore of Lake Bee. Surrounding habitat is longleaf pine/wiregrass. I followed this individual around trying to get good shots. Eventually it took a bright green nymphal grasshopper.

Scleropogon?

Moved
Moved from Robber Flies.

Can
Only be Scleropogon subulatus. Female. I find this must be very rare in the east and we have yet to find one in AR.
