Robber fly - Holcocephala calva

Robber fly - Holcocephala calva
Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana, USA
July 16, 2011
I have no idea how to identify Robber flies. After looking through photos on Bugguide, the ones that look closest to me are Ommatius tibialis and Holcocephala calva. Am I even close? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

That was a slip of the pen
for Holcocephala calva.

Thank you!
