Ventral side mostly yellow, dorsal grayish with markings. found hanging by silk; dropped down to ground when disturbed.

thanks for that info. i do have cabbages in garden, but that's 40m away from where this guy was hanging. maybe they also eat some native plant?

No, wait. there are some broccolis about 20m away, but why would this beast crawl up front of house and then rappel down from eaves on silk to get where he started?

It does look like a fully mature caterpillar.
