Red & Black Awesome lookin' beetle? - Pyrrhocoris apterus

Red & Black Awesome lookin' beetle? - Pyrrhocoris apterus
Bountiful Utah - on my back patio, Davis County, Utah, USA
September 5, 2011
Size: appx 1/4 inch
My first impression was that it was somehow related to Box Elder Bugs. Similar red eyes, antennae, and black and red coloration, but the pattern is so different than what I am used to seeing.

Moved from ID Request.

Looks like Utah is only data point here in BugGuide!

Pyrrhocoris apterus?
Today, 8/30/2014, in San Diego CA on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay Park. Very little vegetation. Seem to be eating young tumbleweed (Russian thistle, I think).

Pyrrhocoris apterus?

Firebug - Pyrrhocoris apterus
Aha! Thanks. Now I know.
