Beetle -
Serropalpus substriatus
Long Beach, Pacific County, Washington, USA
September 4, 2011
Size: 18 mm
Found this very cool beetle on sandy beach. It looks like a member of Tenebrionoidea superfamily to me. Need help with ID.

Darren A. Pollock: "seems to be S. substriatus.
"Mank listed a couple other species (other than
coxalis
) from North America, but I doubt that there are more than just the two Nearctic spp."

Melandryidae
At least based on the palps and overall habitus. Not sure beyond family...perhaps something in
Serropalpus
?

Serropalpus...
looks good to me. Thanks, Tim!
This species reminds me (especially by maxillary palpi) S. barbatus from Europe, but I know we have at least three species in North America. Unfortunately, I do not have Mank's key.
