Click beetle of some sort -
Hemicrepidius hemipodus
Dayton (Cox Arboretum), Ohio, USA
June 23, 2011
Size: vaguely, 1 inch
I can get as far as click beetle, but much beyond Dalopius, or even just stopping there, I'm simply guessing.

Elateridae
These dorso-lateral views are 80% of the time useless for clickers. You really need good straight-on dorsal shots.
At best guess, I think this is Hemicrepidius hemipodus. It looks as if there are tarsal pads; the pronotal hind angles appear to extend from the hypomeron and it has nice big eyes. H. hemipodus also often has pale legs.

Thanks.
Thanks for the info on the best view for id. I've got the pretty picture part down but not the best for id shot.
