Ground Mantid - Litaneutria skinneri - female

Ground Mantid - Litaneutria skinneri - Female
Payson, Arizona, USA
September 4, 2011
This little wonder popped out from behind a stone by our camp fire in the morning. Very alert, didn't mind being held, but very active. Very fast when moving across the ground. I set it on a small tree and checked on it a few minutes later to find that it had crawled back to the ground.

I showed these pictures to one of the faculty at the University of Arizona entomology department when they hosted the Arizona Insect Festival. He said it's not a ground mantis, but some kind of stagmomantis. So I'm moving the pictures to that area.

Moved from Stagmomantis. I don't know what this is, but it is not Stagmomantis. Some further research is in order.
