There are apparently eight poplar-mining Phyllonorycter species in the Nearctic, though I imagine some could be ruled out.

 
I suspect that this moth
I suspect that this moth probably emerged from one of these mines. Can't be certain but it seems most likely. I had tossed out the leaves shortly before noticing that there was a moth and pupal case in the container.
