Cerambycidae - Monochamus clamator - female

Cerambycidae - Monochamus clamator - Female
San Juan National Forest, Montezuma County, Colorado, USA
June 12, 2006
Size: >1", excluding antennae
This was found at 9000' in the aspen/spruce forest. Would it be another Monochamus sp.? This one is a little larger, (and has a lot more white and even some browns) than the first one I submitted (how do I show that with a "here" like I see others do?)

Moved from Monochamus.

Monochamus clamator...
...a nicely marked individual.

Monochamus female.
This is indeed a pine sawyer. Females are larger bodied than males, with much, much shorter antennae and shorter front legs, too. Nice image!

It does bear a resemblance,
and might in fact be a Monochamus.

Not always reliable

You're absolutely right!
I just followed my own directions and the site had converted it to a whole different markup approach. From now on I'll just hand out the fish instead of trying to teach people how to fish :-)
