I don't recognize this Tom, which means 'very interesting!'. Did you save the specimen? It's a paederine though.

Keys out to Medon rufipenne (
Keys out to Medon rufipenne (Casey) in Downie and Arnett. This genus is unrevised for North America so this is the best we can do. Apparently not known aside from the type specimen from NY. I checked papers illustrating the genitalia of European species and couldn't come up with anything either.

Good find, the specimen will now be available for whoever decides to study Medon,
