Not an expert, but...
I've been told by those who are that the transverse yellow marks on the scutellum are unique to Pseudodoros clavatus among the similar-looking species.

 
Now that you mention it...
...the Info page for P. clavatus says that very thing. It's amazing what you can learn by reading. Thanks, Chuck!

Thanks. I had seen this species a number of times and I am glad finally to know what it was. This specimen is the only one I had ever seen land. Usually they always hover!
