Very fast. Got only one so-so shot and nothing from another angle.

We unlinked the images that were
of different individuals. Here at BugGuide we try to reserve the Link function for images of the same individual. We also did not reply to your last comment here, because if we had you could no longer edit it, and we thought you might want to change it now that the other images are unlinked and no longer appear on this image page. Impossible to get to a genus without a closer shot of head or face or abdomen or wing veins.

I saw several, plan to go back, and hope I get some better shots. They're certainly interesting little guys.

 
There is enough color info sh
There is enough color info showing to ID this as Saropogon luteus, a common S.Calif. asilid. Try for a side photo, if this is possible, which will show more diagnostic characters for this genus & species.
