Actually Plathemis lydia,
which is the correct identification for this image by the way, is called the Common Whitetail. The female is often cunfused with the Twelve Spotted Skimmer, Libellula pulchella, which is a different animal from the one pictured here. Check in the guide at the stripe along the side of the abdomen.
