Dog bot? - Cuterebra

My brother-in-law just squeezed this out of a lump on his dog's back. I assume it must be a bot fly larva, although it looks different from the examples I've seen, maybe because it was squeezed out prematurely? There is one other example in the guide (that I know of) of a larva being removed from a dog:

Cuterebra sp

Its an early instar Cuterebra (most likely mouse bot). These are really hard to ID, even under a scope. But by the time of the year (and in MA) this is most likely Cuterebra fontinella or possibly Cuterebra emasculator. C. fontinella is quite common here in MA and more likely, it uses white footed mice as a host. This seems to be a pretty good year for them as well.

Jeff, did you ever get a DNA barcode on the larva I gave you a few years ago? It wasn't this one, but it came out of the same dog at about the same time.
