March 16, 2006
I could not get a better angle on this one, it was sunning up high on my bat house pole.

A male.
I asked Dr. Burger to take a look as I was stumped. He could not give a positive ID, needed to see the fly at different angles. It's most likely a Tabanus but I can't think of anything resembling this flying so early. Best now to leave it where it is, in the Tabaninae, Tribe: Tabanini.

Unknown Male Tabanid
I examined the additional images of the male tabanid, that gave me the view I needed. It is a male of Agkistrocerus meigerlei (Wiedemann).

I want to
Thank you both again, for taking the time to identify this tabanid for me.

Moved
to species page. A very welcome addition.

Thank you
for taking the time on this, and Dr. Burger. I have a few other images I could post, and if they cannot be of any further help we can delete them.
