Color change in eggs - Cycloneda polita

Color change in eggs - Cycloneda polita
Alameda County, California, USA
September 12, 2011
A few days ago, finding nine ladybug eggs on a zucchini fruit I'd harvested, I cut off that part of the squash and set it aside. This morning, hatching began. I've photographed coccinellids hatching before, , but the color change this time is something new. The eggs were orange until today. Seven of them turned gray overnight.

Moved
Moved from Unidentified Eggs, Larvae, and Pupae. These turned out to be C. polita. I placed the larvae in an aphid-infested chard patch and checked their markings in a later instar.

Moved
Moved from Lady Beetles.
