Very fine fly
And you can see how it is a close relation of the Diogmites genus. In the east Diogmites is dominant and we don't get any Saropogon species. In Texas, they have over ten species of Saropogon. And as you go west this genus gets more speciose. I've never seen a member of this genus. Thanks for posting the shots.

Thanks for your encouragement
and also the specificity of your comments re: what you need for an id. (Hey, I just found out what venation was two days ago and am still struggling to spell it.) I now have a better understanding of when less-than-perfect shots may help solve the mystery. Next steps are to get better eyes and to shake less. LOL!

Sunshine
Looks like you had good sun there. Lets you take the speed up and the F stop and then shoot with less shaking. The best shots are taken with a tripod but people with tripods are less likely to go out and find the best subjects. Hand-held shooters find the good stuff. Keep sending the robbers.

Good sun, but I need a foliage filter.
Unlike the large grey robbers I've shot on flat and clear surfaces, these red guys tend to tuck into the greenery. I usually use a monopod, but lost mine the other day and have ordered a replacement. The wilderness park where I shot these is new to me, and I plan to go there often. There are also many bee flies; I'll probably post some soon and hopefully more robbers as well.
