This is the only good image of several shots taken while the insect was feeding. What interested me was that, in two shots, the fly suspended itself from one leg while eating.

Ron - Good action shots of Saropogon luteus, a common early summer chaparral area robber fly in S. Calif. Many genera & species of Dasypogoninae (see photos of Diogmites in the guide)do the casual-looking 'one leg hang' while feeding.
